This is OE (@OE_uia), the ScalaMatsuri chairperson.
ScalaMatsuri 2020 is just around the corner. Ticket registration is open until the last minute.
Now, I'm going to show you how to enjoy the first ever online ScalaMatsuri 2020!
TL;DR / Summary
-Install Zoom and Discord client apps, create a Discord account, and set up your icon beforehand. - Prepare a headset or earphones. - Check our timetable. We'd encourage you to post your session ideas to Unconference GitHub repo! - Revisit our code of conduct.
Venue
For ScalaMatsuri 2020, Day 1 will be the conference day on Saturday, October 17th (JST), and Day 2 will be the unconference day on Sunday, October 18th (JST).
We will use Zoom Webinar and Discord throughout these two days.
Zoom Webinar is an online video chat service provided by Zoom. Zoom Webinar will be used to deliver sessions in ScalaMatsuri 2020.
In a webinar, only speakers and staffs can use their camera and mic. Since participants (you) can't use mic and camera, please enjoy being audience.
Track A and B will use simultaneous interpretation via Zoom Webinar. To use interpretation, you will need a Windows or Mac Zoom client for meetings.

If you only have a Linux PC, we recommend watching the Zoom Webinar sessions on your tablet or smartphone.
Discord is an online communication service that has text and voice chat channels in a group called a server. We use it as the main venue for ScalaMatsuri. There will be session questions, chats, parties, and sponsor booths.
Your Discord account name (nickname) and icon will be "your face" in online conference.
It's common at conferences to find yourself chatting with people you haven't seen in a while. We hope that this year's ScalaMatsuri will be a great opportunity for you to meet such people. To make it easier for people to find you, we encourage you to use the same account name or nickname and icon that you normally use on social networks.
When you click on the Voice Channel in Discord, you will enter the room with the microphone on. You can also turn your camera on after you joined a voice channel. Please be sure to use a headset or earphones to prevent audio feedback. You may listen to the audio on your speakers if your microphone is muted.
Please write your questions about sessions in the #track-a / #track-b / #track-c channels of the discord. You can write in either English or Japanese, regardless of the language of the session, as an interpreter bot will automatically translate them into English <-> Japanese.
Feel free to use #track-a-chat / #track-b-chat / #track-c-chat to share your thoughts on the session, chat, or anything else that isn't a question.
It's best to have both the Zoom Webinar and Discord open for maximum enjoyment, and you can download the Discord desktop client at the following link.

Day 1: Saturday, October 17
Day 1 will be conducted in conference format, with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. and opening session at 11:10 a.m.

Tracks A, B, and C are our main tracks. Track A and B will have simultaneous interpretation. In addition, there is a sponsor track which consists of contents from the booth sponsors.
Only one track is listed for sponsor track in the timetable due to display limitations, but please visit each booth to check out the rest of the events.
The main three tracks will be conducted via Zoom Webinar. The sponsor booth contents, including the sponsored tracks, will take place in a virtual booth set up on the Discord server.
All the contents will be held online, so you can relax and enjoy yourself, eat and drink while listening to the sessions.
Since ScalaMatsuri is an event that spans two full days, we hope you'll take a break often and join us without straining yourself.
A party will be held at 7pm on the Discord voice channel. Don't forget to bring something to eat and drink!
Day 2: Sunday, October 18
Day 2 will be conducted in an unconference format: registration begins at 10:30 a.m., morning session at 10:50 a.m.

An unconference is an event where participants bring their session ideas and work together to create a timetable on the day. Detailed instructions are available on the website.

Create your session ideas as an issue in the GitHub repository!
It doesn't matter what form of idea you have, such as "I'd like to talk about this," "I'd like to discuss this," or "I'd love to hear about this".
Please add a 👍 or other reaction to ideas that sound interesting and that you would love to participate in.
We will allocate the collected ideas to a timetable over two sessions: morning meeting and snack meeting.
Tracks A and B will be conducted via Zoom Webinar. If we need more than that, we will open a new voice channel on Discord. There is no limit to the number of tracks, so please feel free to submit your ideas.
Please note simultaneous translation will not be provided for the unconference.
Code of Conduct
ScalaMatsuri Code of Conduct From the Foreword
ScalaMatsuri is dedicated to providing an open conference for all technologists from various regions and communities. We want to make it a fun experience for everyone, inclusive of gender, race, and many different backgrounds whom they may not meet in their daily life.
The following Code of conduct is a guideline to prevent all of us from making inconsiderate behavior, intentional or otherwise. The ScalaMaturi comittee requires all participants, including speakers and sponsors to comply with the Code of conduct as part of our active step to prevent inappropriate behaviors.
The text of our Code of Conduct also provides an overview of the types of harassment that we define; so please take a look at it.
ScalaMatsuri reserves the right to treat such hate speech as harassment, and will issue citations, warnings, and may remove and/or ban participants from the conference at our sole discretion.
In the unlikely event that you say something that could be perceived as harassment, we expect you to retract it immediately, regardless of whether or not you are cautioned by staff.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation in ensuring that we have a respectful and enjoyable time with each other.
